Freezer Labels – A cool way to identify your food

Whether it’s a newbie in kitchen or a chef, one or the other time we all have faced the issue of not able to find the actual thing of our interest at the right time. This problem of misplaced identity of food and its ingredients was solved by the innovative idea called “Label”. Since mankind has evolved so has our problems, we find it difficult to label material that is supposed to be stored in a freezer. Most of us worry if the label would hold good at low temperatures and moisture; will the paper hold good; will it stick there for as long we want it to be there.

These concerns are addressed by the companies like Day Mark and Avery who specializes in the manufacturing of Freezer Labels. These products have the right amount of freezer grade labels adhesive that makes sticking easy. These products do not shrink of cripple at cold temperatures, hence remains legible for a long period of time. There are a variety of freezer labels available in market to shop for various kind of stuff you want to store in a freezer.

However, if you consider yourself to be a creative person you can do it yourself and create your own freezer labels. This is a very simplistic task with high utility, and it’s fun too. To make these Freezer Labels you would need the following materials:

Plastic files (in a variety of colors – mostly to show your colorful side)
Strings (make sure it’s a string and not a rope or thread)
Black Marker (obviously to write)
Cut-outs of different shapes (to include variety in your collection)
Scissors and paper punch

Steps to make your own Freezer Label:
1. Cut thin strips of plastic sheet – not more than 5cm in width
2. Then, use the cut outs to draw the various designs of your choice on these plastic strips. If you want, you can cut to of the same shape (to add symmetry to your kitchen cabinet)
3. Cut the shapes drawn on the strips
4. Use the Paper punch to make holes in each of the cut out now.
5. Now, draw stings through these cut outs and make sure they are long enough to tie around your jars and bottles
6. You can store them in a paper jar to use later

These freezer labels have another use advantage, they can organize your freezer. You can use color coding to store various things in your freezer. For e.g.  Green can be coded for Vegetables, Blue for Dairy products and Red for liquid based items like sauces, chutneys and curry.
This small but creative idea can really make your freezer stand out in front of your guests or family members. So, get ready to show some of your artistic skills to impress your loved ones in your kitchen.
